Toledo (full day)

4 out of 5 stars (5 reviews)

Discover the “City of the Three Cultures”! Located 70 km away from Madrid is Toledo, a beautiful city-museum declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is one of the oldest towns in Europe and has a great artistic beauty and buildings from almost all periods in history (Arabian, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque style). Toledo is called the “City of the Three Cultures”, since Christians, Muslims and Jews lived together. In the XVI century, it was also the place of residence of the great painter El Greco.

This full-day excursion has the same itinerary as the half-day tour but in a more detailed way, including the visit to the Cathedral of Toledo, its architecture shows all the stages of Spanish Gothic, and the inside of the building contains a large number of artworks (stained glasses, choir, main chapel, altarpieces, El Greco paintings, etc.); the Church of St. Tomé with El Entierro del Conde de Orgaz, masterpiece of El Greco; the Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca; the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes and the Mosque of El Cristo de la Luz; and at the end of the tour, we will enjoy learning about the famous technique of damascene (incrustation of precious metals in steel) and the forge of the steel of Toledo for making swords. The tour will end with a panoramic sightseeing of Toledo.

" Great day. "

Toledo is a beautiful city. It was a one hour bus ride from Madrid. We made one stop at a gift shop for bathrooms and coffee/snacks prior to arriving in Toledo. It was a good amount of walking , with some hills. We were given ear piece to hear the guide as the group was about 24 people. We saw the 5 main items in Toledo as described. They were beautiful. We did not pay for the lunch because we wanted more free time so I cannot comment on the food. But we had 2 hours free time and the lunch we had was great! I wish we knew there was a zip line in Toledo because we would have done that if we didn’t run out of time. But we found it close to our meeting time and wasn’t able to do it. It was 10 euros a person for one zip line. We then took the bus to the top of Toledo for pictures of the town and panoramic views. Beautiful! Last thing was a trip to another gift shop with metal work. You could buy swords and jewelry. We had fun taking pictures with the swords but didn’t buy any. Would recommend this tour. Our guide Elisa was wonderful and answered questions throughout the tour, and walked us at a good pace.

Although Toledo had many wonderful sights we felt we were unable to take full advantage of them. The tour group we were in was far to large 51 people. The guide was moving on to the next site before the people towards the back of the group had a chance to look at the one we were at. Recommend 2 guides for a large group. 1-Spanish 1-English

Toledo is a great city to walk around and experience. Even though it rained and the weather was cold and wet the tour was great and our guide Magdalena was superb.
" Morning great, afternoon not so much. "

Take the half day tour. The morning was fantastic, but the afternoon was not worth the travel time.
" A Day in Toledo "

My visit to Toledo was very good. We were only a few people, so the explanation was heard clearly and personal. We visited all the monuments and places that had been programmed. I did not have lunch with the tour, and this was good!! The tourists who took this option were very disappointed with the menu as regards the quality of the meal and the attention. I choose to have my lunch in a small place on the left on the road that goes to the bridge, unfortunately, I do not remember its name, but it was immediately next to a luxury restaurant just where the road makes a small turn. I use the time devoted to lunch for visiting the Greco's Museum (which was not his house at all, they discovered this later on. The Greco's house was placed in front of this museum) The crossing of the bridge that directs to the outside part of the old city is a wonderful experience and to watch the old walls and the city in itself crossing the river is majestic and fascinating. Our guide was very nice and asked all our questions with pleasure. The Cathedral was splendid and to watch "The Burial of the Conde de Orgaz" a must!!
