29th Madrid En Danza Festival

Each year, Madrid En Danza Festival attracts dance companies from Spain, Germany, Canada, Morocco, Netherlands and Belgium, which encompass a wide variety of dance styles and present different national and international programmes. For three weeks Madrid becomes the main European dance scene, bringing together visitors and experts from all over the world.

The main objective of Madrid En Danza is to discover new ways of dancing, break away from the traditional styles and introduce new aesthetics both in national and international dance. Leading figures from the world of dance are participating in this festival. The audience can see performances of JAVIER MARTÍN, TANIA ARIAS WINOGRADOW, MARIE BRASSARD, SARAH WILLIAMS, MARINA MASCARELLand many more at various theatres in the city of Madrid and in its suburbs. A unique feature of the festival this year is that it includes Spanish and flamenco dance.

This weekend you will be able to experience an amazing LES BALLETS DE MONTE-CARLO created by Jean-Christophe Maillot in collaboration withwriter Jean Rouaud. The work shows the transition from the animal to the human state, questioning our own nature. We differ from animals by our choice and decision, but do we really have that ability? Jean-Christophe Maillot shows us undecided between black and white, between good and evil, innocence and eroticism. LAC is a different version of the iconic ballet Swan Lake.

Marina Mascarell will present her art work “The Unreality of Time”. The Unreality of Time is the first collaboration of Mascarell with the composer Chris Lancaster, who plays live music with five dancers. Unusual decorations are designed by Ludmila Rodrigues who used 150 kilos of green lentils. The performers quickly move through different times and finally find themselves at the society in modern times.

Another magnificent performance ENTRE MAREAS is presented by Tamako Akiyama and Dimo Kirilov Milev. Tamako Akiyama began his freelance career after a successful career in prestigious companies including the Stuttgart Ballet, Deutsche Oper Ballet and National Dance Company. Dimo Kirilov, a former dancer with the CND is an independent artist since 2009 . Tamako and Dimo possess an exquisite performance quality, develop poetic and exciting stories. “Entre Mareas” talks about evolution, transformation and disappearance of feelings; about addiction or dependence; small secrets and lies.

Madrid En Danza is opened from Thursday, the 6th of November, to Sunday, the 30th of November 2014.
