If you are the type of person who likes to get away from the main tourist areas and get a real feel for the cities you visit, come with us and let us show you why we love Madrid. Not for us the bustling main square, full of tourists, where the food and drink is expensive and frankly average. We like the local ambience with traditional food and drink and 'Madrile?culture.
We offer a service for those people who, after visiting the tourist sites (or working!) during the day, want to soak up the atmosphere and culture of the real Madrid in the evening. We will take you to sample traditional Spanish cuisine in some of the hidden corners of central Madrid, where the food and drink is fantastic, the atmosphere buzzing and the prices very reasonable.
We will help you choose your food and recommend local specialities whilst acquainting you with fascinating local facts and advising you on what must not be missed in Madrid. Not heavy history and a list of exact dates, what we tell you is mainly anecdotal! The aim of the evening is to leave clients with a real and lasting feeling for the city and its people, whilst eating and drinking really well.
We do not offer one of those 'all-inclusive packages' but a personalised service. You choose what you want to eat and how much you want to pay, we are here to guide you and help you experience Madrid in an authentic and memorable way.
Tours: The evening's entertainment starts with traditional aperitifs, followed by dinner or 'tapas' in a local restaurant and ends in a bar with a more relaxed atmosphere for after dinner drinks. All venues are within approximately 10 mins walking distance from each other.
There will be an opportunity to try various libations such as 'Vermut' (similar to red Martini), 'Manzanilla' (a very typical Spanish sherry), Asturian cider (which is poured by barmen with the bottle held above their heads), and 'mosto' (an alcohol-free grape juice). Your guide will then take you to a local bar or restaurant and advise you on the specialities on offer, providing a translation and explanation of the dishes. The evening will generally end with a coffee and a 'digestivo' such as 'Pacharan' (a liqueur made in Navarra from sloe berries marinated in sweet aniseed spirit).
Cost: 44 euros per person. This includes the first 'aperitivo' in a traditional 'Madrile?bar. Additional food and drink is not included. You choose what you want to eat and how much you want to pay. (As a guide we calculate that you will spend a total of c. 30-35 euros on food and drinks for your entire night and you will have eaten and drunk to your stomach's content!)
First stop:
A typical, very traditional 'fino' or Sherry bar. This hostelry has changed very little in the last century with standing room at the bar or seating at wooden tables at the back. The bar is complete with the authentic oak sherry casks. 'Fino' and 'Manzanilla' sherries of various hues and tastes are served by the glass or from bottles filled directly from the kegs. Drinks come with complimentary olives or bread sticks.
Second Stop:
This intimate local bar gives you a real taste of Madrid, with bulls' heads on the wall set off by various football shirts, and sawdust on the floor where locals deposit their olive pips before a final clear up at the end of the night. On the bar there is a huge selection of 'tapitas' and 'pinchos' (similar to canap?. Beside the bar is a model ship full of prawns which are usually provided as your complimentary 'tapita' with drinks.
Next stop: FOOD!!
A very popular bar/restaurant serving wonderful 'tostadas' and great salads, meats, cheeses and tapas. This is a fantastic eatery with very good quality, no nonsense food and a great atmosphere with orders being shouted from waiter to waiter to bar to chef!!!
Final stop:
A large 1920's bar. Music tends to be background jazz or Swing Band until the bear-like owner decides to give you a surprise and performs his party piece (You'll have to come to find out what it is!). A very relaxed, stylish place to visit for a coffee and a brandy before bed or even a 'mojito' (an exotic blend of lime juice, sugar cane spirit, crushed ice and fresh mint leaves).
